QOOLMATE
Leveraging the miniature form-factor of Thermal Thick Film Integrated Circuit (TTFIC), Qoolmate is an ultra-portable cooling device (the founder of the company calls it the "future ice pack") which removes heat in an extremely rapid fashion. The precise temperature control is customizable for biomedical and emergency applications, not limited to cold therapy, post exercise recovery, and heatstroke prevention. With such a compact form-factor, the design challenge focused on the intrinsic heat transfer of the device that ultimately translated into the user experience of how hot the device feels in the hand during use.

Product Development Advisory
-
Virtual Prototyping: With multiple expensive rounds of prior physical prototyping, Amazing Lab advised Qoolmate to take a virtual approach to study the thermal characteristics of the device using the 3D CAD database of the existing design. This approach allowed Qoolmate to save costs on additional rounds of trial-and-error prototyping while enabled multiple design scenarios to be compared against each other efficiently.
-
Finite Element Analysis: Performed computational thermal analysis using the latest 3D CAD database to reveal the hottest surface temperature of the device, allowing targeted design refinement to reduce it to an acceptable level and gain confidence that the next round of physical prototypes could match the thermal performance target.
